Step-by-step guide to printing your textile designs online
Step 1: I choose my pattern on French Design and I buy it
- in high-resolution JPEG (300 DPI)
- or to go further in .AI or .PSD format if I want to modify its colors and scale (especially to enlarge it while maintaining its quality). I then save it in JPG to be able to use it at the printer
- I buy my pattern on French Design with the secure payment of French Design
Good to know:
What printing resolution should you choose for the printer?
We recommend using a 300 DPI (pixels/inch) file for a beautiful pixel-free print.
All French Design designs are sold in 300 DPI to ensure the quality of your prints.
What type of file should you use for the printer?
Online printers generally ask for JPEG/JPG files.
All French Design designs are sold in JPG and also in .AI or .PSD format if you want to change its colors and scale (especially to enlarge it while maintaining its quality). In this case, you will need to save the .AI or .PSD file in JPG to be able to use it at the printer.
What color mode should you choose for the printer?
We recommend providing the printer with a file with the RGB color mode.
All French Design designs are sold in RGB format.
At what scale will my surface pattern be printed at the printer?
When you send the surface pattern to your printer, it will be printed at 1/1 scale, at actual size, which means that you must first check that the size of your digital pattern corresponds to your needs.
On French Design, you will find the details of each surface pattern offered and in particular its size in pixels and centimeters (width x height).
Example: a surface pattern indicating “Pattern size: 2008 x 1890 px / 17 x 16 cm” means that the digital file* of this surface pattern measures 2008 pixels in width and 1890 pixels in height / 17 centimeters in width and 16 centimeters in height.
* the digital file corresponds to the basic unit of the textile pattern, without repetition applied. The repetition of the surface pattern will be done at the time of printing, automatically at the online printer.
If you are unsure about the scale of the surface pattern, you can always ask the printer for a fabric sample to check that the size of the surface pattern is suitable for you.
Step 2: I download my French Design pattern
from my account or from the email received following my purchase
Step 3: I choose my support at the printer
- on fabrics by the meter
- on clothing (men, women, children)
- on fashion accessories (bags, socks, scarves, ties, hats, etc.)
- on decorative items (household linens, wallpaper, tableware, decorative objects, home furniture, stationery, etc.)
Depending on the support you wish to print, you will go to a printer specialized in a field.
For example,
- to print fabric by the meter, you can use the services of Tiskafabrics.com, Apoz.pl, Contrado.fr, Tissus-print.com or Houseofu.com
- to print on clothing, bags and accessories, go to Printful.com, Printify.com or Houseofu.com
- to print on home objects and wall decoration, look at Contrado.fr and Printful.com
Good to know:
What quality of fabric to choose?
We invite you to consult the material guides offered by each printer. Read carefully the descriptions of the fabrics and their technical characteristics (printable width, weight, opacity, composition, shrinkage rate, quality and certifications, inks used, etc.).
Online printers often offer a sample pack to see for yourself the print quality, the feel and the texture of the fabrics.
Can the color of a surface pattern be different from one fabric to another?
Depending on the fabric chosen, the color is likely to vary. The same surface pattern may not have exactly the same color rendering depending on the fabrics. We advise you to order a sample of your personalized fabric before placing your order.
What are the maximum printing dimensions of fabrics at the printer?
The maximum width is that of the printing medium itself. Fabrics do not all have the same widths. You will need to consult the technical sheets of the fabrics offered by the printer to find out the available widths
Step 4: I upload my French Design pattern to the printer's website
- My pattern is applied directly to the product I have selected
- I view the preview of my pattern in real time on the printer's customization tool
Good to know:
Preparing your file
First of all, make sure your design is ready for printing. Your file must be in high resolution (300 DPI recommended) and in a suitable format (usually JPEG). The colors must be in RGB mode for faithful reproduction.
If your surface pattern is intended to be repeated, check that the connection is perfect at the edges (check that the pattern repeats perfectly, without defects, without separation lines for example)
Step 5: I adjust the printing options on the printer's website
- I adjust my pattern and check the customization options: placement, pattern scale, repeat type, orientation
- I select the finishing options if necessary (for clothing and accessories)
- I select the number of meters or products I want
Step 6: I order my product printed with my French Design pattern
- I check the delivery and return conditions
- I order
- I receive the personalized product with my pattern in a few days
Good to know:
Is a test order useful?
Start with a small test order. Most printers offer samples or small quantity prints. It is a wise investment to check the print quality and color rendering on the chosen fabric.
Once you are satisfied with your test, you can move on to the main order.
Additional tips:
- Keep a backup copy of your files
- Note the references of the fabrics and parameters used for your future orders
- Allow sufficient lead time, including printing and delivery time
With these steps in hand, you are ready to transform your digital designs into beautiful printed textiles. Feel free to contact the customer service of the chosen site if you have any specific questions, they will be able to guide you.
